Norway’s Anders Behring Breivik told an Oslo court today that he killed 77 people in a shooting spree and bomb plot last summer in self-defense.  Breivik acknowledged that acts, but stated that he did it in self-defense.  Last November, psychiatrists determined that Breivik was insane, but the court recently sought a second opinion because Breivik’s sanity is such an important part of the trial.  The most recent psychiatric report states that Breivik is sane, and therefore competent to stand trial.  A “right-wing Christian extremist,” Breivik claims he committed the atrocious murders in order to protect Norway from “being taken over by multicultural forces and to prevent ethnic cleansing of Norwegians.”
